As part of the project assignment of a university class, I produced a reportage photo serie of political protests. The protests took place in Ljubljana during the year of 2020 as a reaction to the political power shift, when the so called, self-proclaimed »right wing« took over the leadership of the Slovenian parliament. The protests were taking place throughout the majority of the year on every Friday’s late evening at the centre’s square.
As someone who is not a photographer, this was a big challenge, especially with a very limited technical equipment. It would be ideal to photograph protestors portraits, but due to the difficult conditions – the lack of daylight in the evening – with my deficit in technical equipment this was not possible. Therefore, I decided to take serial photographs of non-acted, i.e. genuine, moments.
The purpose of this project is to gain experience in the field of reportage photography, mastering the camera, photographic elements, scene and motif, photography of the “right moment” and, with the help of this field, get closer to an authentic way of expressing yourself.
